Sunk costs are a bad premise for continued foolishness. People also seem to have taken all the wrong lessons from WW2, and use that conflict to frame every subsequent conflict. I am not persuaded of the parallels.
None of my arguments are 8ntended to justify Putin's invasion, of course, but it's never too late to take a step back and reassess involvement in foreign war. We can't be both peacemakers and warmongers. If you want parallels to the past, this is worse than lend/lease act nonsense masquerading as neutrality.
It also resembles cold war proxy wars, where the first and second world let thebthird world deal with war, only now it's a former part of the second world suffering these aftershocks.
