The war needs to end

Yes, but seeking appeasement against a belligerent state like today's Russia is already a hard lesson learned. The outcome is worse than not trying to kick the can down the road. There is no simple solution. If the war were to end today, it would legitimize Russia's insistence on reverting the lessons learned from WW2. And that, on the whole, would be far more destructive and deadly to the world than the death and destruction we see in Ukraine.

Furthermore, the decision to back Ukraine has been made. The direction has already been chosen. A change of course at this point would not be good for anyone, except Putin's regime.
