Tesla and Ford both make cars. That doesn't really make them competitors, though. They serve different parts of the mobility market.

WOTC makes rules, and offers minis as a support, but doesn't discourage people from using other minis. GW makes plastic crack and publishes books. GW tries to play both roles, and as a result, costs way too much for both sides of the hobby.
