I like Apple hardware, but I hate their walled garden software approach which punishes people for trying to do anything outside the Mac ecosystem. My hatred for Micro$oft is tempered by their history of relative openness for their users to do whatever they want with their software, but more and more I'm leaning into Linux and open-source software. You might have some success on Windows with open source options like LibreOffice for document access.
