I never enter an online debate with the goal of changing the mind of whoever I am debating, but I do have the goal of presenting the best argument I can so any unpersuaded observer has the best chance of being swayed to my side through logic and evidence. With any luck, I can plant some seeds that may grow in due time for someone. I can't say I always avoid spiraling into juvenile insults, but I generally manage to keep that wider perspective.
