Property tax is truly an abomination. You can't really have ownership and security when the state revenuers can come calling and make demands every year. It was property taxes and fiat money that built the first generation of political entrepreneurs after the Revolutionary War when farmers who fought for independence were paid in scrip which they had to sell for pennies on the dollar to pay new property taxes and living expenses. Then the buyers got a full payout later from tax revenues levied on those same farmers.
