I think we may be at a turning point. For many years now, work obligations have required more flexibility and mobility on the part of workers. Now with the internet, people can change jobs from a west coast employer to an east coast employer and never move.

On the other hand, there is also pushback against the old concepts of amassing stuff as a sign of success. It's more about personal interests than family heirlooms. This trend is a mixed bag.
