Some libraries have had issues with "first amendment audits" where asshats with cameras try to provoke confrontations with staff and patrons. Freedom of the press does not mean freedom to harass people at the library.

On the other hand, people try to justify a lot of violence under the excuse that is is "just the natural consequence" of something. People want to blame the victim so much they'll justify any aggression. As an abstract (but probably accurate historical) example, it's like one slave saying to another, "If you didn't want to get whipped, why did you try to run away? This is your own damn fault."

Remember the TeaKO guy? I'm not sure what to think of that, but it appears as if an incendiary bomb-thrower got a bit more backlash than was expected, and unless there is something more to the story, I feel little sympathy for that slap.
