We seem to be in a society where people try to derive core principles from their feelings, instead of using reason and evidence to discover root principles. Then, opinions are assumed to be equivalent to truth. Any challenge to opinion is perceived as a personal affront, and any support, no matter how little real foundation it provides, is embraced.
