Paranoid busybody control freaks have to start any discussion by presenting dissent as ignorance in order to have any hope of maintaining the status quo. That is why they frame all debate that way, whether consciously or not. Strawman arguments, begging the question, and every other fallacy they can grab is necessary to keep an illusion of authority.
