Welcome to the finale for 2026. What will the next two months bring? What does 2027 have in store for us? I have no idea, but nobody from the future has traveled back and tried to stop me from making a guess, so here goes!

Pete Hegseth Impeachment

Thomas Massie of Kentucky was crushed in his primary election by MAGA and AIPAC, who set new records for spending against him. Almost alone among the Republicans, he has actually tried to do the things Trump campaigned on: Epstein, peace, fiscal responsibility, small federal government, and the like. It must have been like pulling teeth, but he did make some progress on the Epstein file release, and he is also pushing to impeach Hegseth for his collusion with Trump on senseless, illegal wars. I don't know whether he'll manage to pass anything, but he has nothing to lose. Keep an eye on what happens. It could be big.

Gun Rights

Just watch. State and federal legislation to prohibit "military-style" weapons and standard magazines will be proposed, and I would expect several to pass. This is the biggest risk to individual liberty under a Democratic majority. What little I can say for Trump is that he seems mostly-OK on basic gun rights, so he would veto bills presented to him... probably. Whether anything actually happens on a national level or not, and whether you comply, I leave up to you. I won't be registering anything.

Generative A.I.

I suspect there will be a major correction in the market, especially for the "Magnificent Seven" of Alphabet, Amazon, Apple, Tesla, Meta Platforms, Microsoft, and NVIDIA plus a few other corporations that have gone or are trying to go public soon, like Anthropic. Alphabet had a major one-day loss before the election already, and that may be a warning of wider concerns Meanwhile, legislative efforts to "regulate" A.I..industries and tech companies will be sold to the public as a safeguard against corporate overreach. It will actually guarantee a state cartel.

Trump Impeachment

The Democrats will likely rally enough to try at least one new round of impeachment, but it will likely fail in the Senate. Will they go so far as to charge him with breach of Congressional authority in two wars? Or will it be a lazy show trial where lots of folks call him a nasty man? That will have a major effect on my estimations, but I place this at a personal 90% chance they'll pass something in the House, but well under 50% it passes the Senate.

Iran War

Last, but not least, in my little list of issues is the biggest one of the year. The war against Iran was not declared, or even tangentially authorized, by Congress. Trump and Israel's Netanyahu planned a first strike attack during active negotiations, assassinated a foreign leader, and further crushed a broken economy with new trade blockades. This is one issue where the Republican party as a whole absolutely failed their self-proclaimed adherence to the Constitution the most, and more than anything else, led to their electoral downfall. The Democrats will have to do something to settle the war, although whether they actually end it is hard to say, especially when they don't want to send Iran any restotution money either.

Inconclusion

I'm far from a prophet, but these are the biggest issues on my mind at the end of 2026 after the "blue wave" of Democrat victories. It could easily change. I know I skipped over several issues. I don't think the Democrats really offer any solutions to the problems they campaigned on, and I expect them to retaliate with more victimless crime laws.

I detest what the Republicans have done my entire life, but their rivals haven't exactly made a difference for the better either. Prove me wrong. I dare you.
