Hello Everyone!

Chilly mornings, Crypto dreams, The low-grade celebratory state, A gate install & Birthday strawberries!

This morning I awoke several times before dawn but went back to sleep instead of getting up and out of bed. I probably could have stayed up either of those times but chose to get more rest instead because I felt bone weary tired after yesterday's activities. Although, I got somewhere near two or three extra hours of sleep in (and went to bed early) I am still feeling quite worn out and rather stiff to boot.

Well, today is my birthday and I was not planning on doing much besides my routine chores and such but now that I am starting to wake up a bit I am considering working on some projects anyway. Mainly I am considering getting the main gate that I began installing late yesterday finished just so that it is not lingering in my mind as something that needs done.

As a general rule I only like working on stuff for me on my birthday but I think that finishing the gate out will only take a few hours and not really interfere with my plans for the day all that much. Okay, maybe it will interfere with my plans but as long as I do not spend the entire morning writing I should be able to go work on it and get it completed by the middle of the afternoon.

Its not that I have any friends that will be coming by or any celebrations planned but I do take great joy from having made the journey around the sun for one more year. Heck, I did not even do my usual routine of inviting folks to hang out on my birthday that I know will not come just to make myself feel better that I at least tried to spend the day with other people.

On the bright side, I am at least starting my day off right with some good coffee, some writing and ruminating on this dream that I was having last night. Not to dive off into a full explanation of the dream but suffice it to say it was both mildly disconcerting and very heartwarming at the same time.

As with most dreams there was a lot going on but the main thing that sticks out in my memory was coming across an old friend that I had fallen out of touch with and having some very good conversations with them. The funny thing is that by the end of our conversation they were telling me how they had gotten into crypto but were way out of their depth with it all.

At which point I chuckled a good bit and informed them that I would be glad to help broaden their understanding. The really funny part was the dawning realization on their face as they switched from dubious incredulity to relief that I actually knew anything about the topic.

The one thing that I wish that I could fully recall 'verbatim' from that dream was my explanation of the basics of a blockchain and how cryptocurrencies and NFTs operate on them. It was actually a very simple and eloquent explanation and one that was easy to understand and I vividly recall thinking in the dream something along the lines of: Wow that was the best description that I have ever given on that topic!

There was of course more to that dream but that last part sticks out so much because it happened not all that long before I awoke and occurred towards the 'end' of the dream. For whatever reason that 'end' part of a dream always sticks with me after waking which is not all that surprising given that I can often fall back asleep and start dreaming the 'same' dream at roughly where I had awoken from it before.

Its a neat trick and all but one that I have spent my entire dreaming life honing into a skill and doing so in a way that it often happens reflexively at this point and with no real effort and thought of my own behind it. As a kid it was always so challenging to achieve but now it just happens... so go figure.

The 'effort and thought' assuredly increases the likelihood of success and yes I occasionally do it to help ensure that a dream will possibly pick back up where it left off... but for the most part I like just relaxing my frigging mind and seeing what happens. The point of resting after all is to get rest!

If I were more of a control freak I am sure that I would have a field day with it but by and large I enjoy the changing landscape of dreams and approach it all like its a marvelous adventure where I get to explore said landscape and see what unfolds with all the fascination and wonder that I can muster. I guess in short: Dreams are a journey I cherish making... not a destination that I must arrive at.

All that jazz aside, I have been debating on whether to play music today or not but I am sure that once I start doing stuff all that 'debating' will evaporate and I will do it. Since there is yet another 'special weather statement' for increased fire risk I will not be having a fire but whoa would one be nice this morning given how chilly the wind is!

I was actually going to not write much and go hiking or something but I keep waiting for the sun to get higher up over the horizon to warm things up so I do not have to bundle up in warm clothes. Not that I mind doing that all that much but I almost immediately wind up shedding them once I get to working and always find the process of pausing work to do so kind of annoying.

Thankfully I am in a rather good mood today and not really in a hurry to do anything besides have fun on my birthday and thus get my morale in tip-top shape for the days and weeks ahead. Considering that I really only celebrate a handful of days each year I really have to 'squeeze' those high points for everything that they are worth!

Of course I kind of live in this low-grade celebratory state most of the time which aside from being a morale booster is just more my general attitude towards life. That said, while I like the 'happy go lucky' element to that approach I also have a pretty strict set of routines that I follow each day and have to constantly muster the discipline to adhere to them... under often rugged conditions.

So, basically its more a requirement to keep me on an even keel and willing to work on projects than it is some life philosophy or some horseshit like that. In short my life is assuredly a hyper-focused, hyper-intentional one that requires a lot of effort on my part and does not accommodate a whole lot of room for slacking.

The less friction that I encounter in my day to day life the easier it is to gloss over the hardships, the lack of a safety-net, the scarcity, the discomfort and all the challenges, anxiety and stress that stuff introduces. Its not that I exactly ignore those things but I also do not want them anywhere near the 'pilot's seat' in my mind or even in the damned cockpit!

Anyway, I think it is time to cut the writing short and get on with my day to one degree or another. Hopefully that wind dies down and things are warm enough that I can squeeze in an early morning hike and get prepared for whatever I decide to do with my time today.

I am considering wrapping this entry up way earlier than usual and skipping my nightly writing entirely so we will see how that turns out. For the most part I do not want to be fooling with it all late into the evening like I have been because after all it is work and taking an evening off holds an incredible amount of charm for me at the moment.

Alright, it is a little before sunset and instead of writing the evening away I am just going to add some to this entry and call it good enough. The day was rather productive because I wound up working on that new gate but I would not go as far as to say that I enjoyed doing it on my birthday.

Thankfully getting that task done was not a struggle or anything but it did take the better part of four hours (plus the hour or so from yesterday) to get it done. Since the posts were quite short I only had to dig down about two-thirds of a meter and only the first third was that extremely dense hard-pack that I seem to hit pretty much everywhere that I dig around here.

Aside from that I did my routine chores, played with the dogs a lot, listened to music and even had a fire that lasted less than three minutes as I burned off a few burnables. The best part of the day was eating some strawberries that I have been saving for today ever since I went on that last supply run.

Once all this writing stuff is done it will be time for strawberries and ice cream. After that I am going to sleep like a rock because just hauling the wagon full of tools around today wiped me out not to mention all the work that I wound up doing! Such is life I guess and no complaints here.

I hope that everyone is doing well and has a nice day/night.
