#Wednesday Walk - Arriving at Cumberland Nature Reserve.

This post is for the #wednesdaywalk challenge and the #makemesmile challenge collaboration. This collaboration initially took place once a month, but due to its popularity, @tattoodjay (of the #wednesdaywalk) and @elizacheng (of #makemesmile) decided to make it a weekly thing.

If you want to know more about the rules, visit this week's post by @tattoodjay where you will find all the rules at the bottom of his post after you've enjoyed his beautiful photos from his walk.

As you might have noticed, I haven't been as active as I would like lately due to circumstances beyond our control.

It was hectic, but two weekends ago we slipped away for the weekend.

We went to a nature reserve we hadn't been to before and we spent the night there.

It is the Cumberland Nature Reserve.

The reserve is a 1-hour drive (75km) from where we stay. And once again I was amazed...the beauty of nature, being out in the bush, away from civilization, away from all the hustle and bustle, the rushing around...yet we were only an hour away from home.

Another observation was to see the effect of winter in the reserve. Where we live (close to the ocean) it is relatively green all year round. Maybe less in wintertime, yet still green. But in the reserve, it was winter! Being more inland, the scenery was dry and brown.

On arrival, at the entrance to the camp where we were to spend the night, we were welcomed by this sight...

We booked into a lovely bungalow with this beautiful scene just outside the door...

I'll share more about the accommodation in another post...

Let's go for a walk first!

This walk was taken during the late afternoon.

At the bottom of the camp is a swimming pool, which offers a beautiful view while you relax in or next to it.

I have no idea what these two pillars are there for. Maybe they were part of a gate some time ago. But I could see no physical purpose, besides providing me with a nice image with a colorful background forming an avenue along the little roadway leaving the camp.

Beautiful and colorful from close-up.

All around the camp, you can enjoy the greenery in front of you with spectacular views of the vast open spaces behind it...

I took a short walk outside the camp, enjoying more open spaces.

Once I was back in the camp, I started admiring the finer details of nature around me.

It didn't take long before I started zooming in, attempting to capture as much detail as possible.

Being caught up in the tranquility and the beauty of the wide open spaces around you, it's easy to miss the beauty that is even right beside you...right under your nose...

And with that, I'll call it a day for today's post.

But be on the lookout, I'll soon be sharing more images...sunset photos, sunrise photos, and a walk at the "Riet Spruit" to name some...

Thank you for reading my post! I do appreciate it!
