Today I decided to share some pictures of flowers I took in Kings Canyon National Park, a part of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. This was just using my IPhone so don't set your expectations of picture quality too high.
I'm not a photographer in any sense of the word, but I thought these flowers were pretty.
I know there are species of flowers commonly referred to as firework flowers, but I felt this one also looked like a firework, so that's what I named it. Of all of the flowers I found on this trip, this one was one of the most vibrant.
This is my favorite flower I've found since I developed this strange habit of taking pictures of every unique flower I see while hiking. I named it "Sandy Flower" because, shockingly, I found it in a very sandy area. Somewhere between 8 and 20 miles off the trail head in Kings Canyon my group found this large sandy hill. The area was next to an open grassy area that made great for tents. The sandy area, however, had these little round bundles of flowers all around. They were pretty from a distance and beautifully complex up close.
Going through my photos from the trip I almost deleted this one. The subject was intended to be the pink flowers in the foreground, but I noticed they were very out of focus. Then I noticed there were flowers in focus in the middle, but the star of the picture was the spider web joining several flowers together. In the top of the web you can see what looks like some of the golden tree sap that was near everywhere in this area. I find this picture is a nice representation of the ecosystem, the weak flowers still able to support the even more fragile spider web while preserving the beauty of both the petals and the spider's silk.
Other than what is obviously visible, I know next to nothing about these flowers. If anyone can tell me the species or other names for the flowers that would be greatly appreciated.
