This is a great topic of discussion and it needs to be tackled over and over and over again.
Although our ecosystem may or may not be appealing to some, it does work. No matter how much we try, there are many people out there who are still under a very heavy influence from the days prior to the fork.
Namely, the issues that I will emphasize are the following:
"steemit is not Steem"
We all understand that the idea "was" to diversify the ownership of the stake that Steemit Inc. had in a way that would dissolve the central nature of governance. I will go one step further and state "dissolve the potential risk of attack with such a large stake", hence let's call it an almost "romantic" approach to decentralization.
I clearly state "romanticism" in that approach, as it, just like many other "ideological theories" does not take into account the materialistic nature of many people out there.
We saw this in action. No matter how anyone presents it, the past was what it was.
Which then takes me to the next meaning of what "steemit is not Steem" was used for, which is best defined as:
"steemit. com is not Steem".
Now this is in actual fact more than relevant to what you are touching on.
& imo need no further elaboration.
Proof of Brain (PoB) as you mentioned it is such a broad specter of possibilities.
"Farming" as you called it, does in fact prove that the person doing it has a brain!
Even if it is being done via a script/bot.
However, there needs to be a logic applied at all levels of business.
Our blockchain has given a means for data (content) to be stored, made available on a decentralized network of nodes (servers) and also for that content to be rewarded (if others wish to utilize their stake to do so).
No matter how much this may be appealing to some or to the disliking of others, this ecosystem has shown to be possible. Hence proving, without a shadow of a doubt that our ecosystem, including but not limited to the distribution of wealth works as is defined in the code and as described in the pre Steem whitepaper.
Can it be done differently?
Sure, but then the question of How does that affect the entire ecosystem? becomes a topic that needs to be studied in great depth.
If for one moment, any one of us can take a deep breath and review the issues of the past (Steem, Steemit Inc, steemit .com) we will see that the hidden agendas for steemit. com were unraveled. To the displeasure of most of us who considered ourselves Steemians.
This seems to be the biggest issue at hand when I read through posts about our ecosystem.
We are still wearing the shackles put upon us by the deviant people who only cared about themselves and not about the concept of PoS and how to make PoB work for the greater good of humanity.
With our current economy, in which we have a blockchain that can store data, two cryptocoins and a means of distribution and diversification of the new coins being produced daily. I dare say that we already have all the necessary elements needed to accomplish the idea of tokenizing the internet.
Which, by no means excludes added features or added possibilities for further tokenization, however, if we look at ETH (as one example) and all those that utilize ETH for their subtokens, then the points you are making are more than valid.
However, instead of restricting ourselves to what we know already exists, what is to stop us from continuing what we are doing, literally utilizing Hive and HIVE & HBD with what we know works plus add to that the ability for a second and third and even fourth layer if need be.
Why do we want to restrict ourselves to being anything remotely close to ETH which is limited in so many ways?
We have the tech, we have the know how, we have many people who see that even with what we have now, that we can accomplish above any beyond what any other chain out there has accomplished to date.
So instead of "changing Hive" to resemble "other chains", I put forward the notion that we use you same logic, to build additional layers on Hive, without changing a thing of the existing ecosystem.
Why can't we have 1 million ecosystems running on Hive along side the existing one?
Yes, I am referring to sidechains.
One article that I often refer to when mentioning sidechains is:
"What is Sidechain? — Unchain the Heart of Blockchain"
Read more at https://ihodl.com/tutorials/2018-10-18/what-sidechain-blockchain/
Notice the title of the article "... Unchain the Heart of Blockchain..."
We have the ability to make this happen in ways that no other blockchain has ever imagined and all it takes is to rip the shackles off.
We don't need to be like others, we already have what most chains out there never imagined and can't handle in their wildest dreams.
Go one step further from "SMTs" and any other c/p ideas of those who only live for the here and now.
;)
Man, I just wrote a post in a comment and I thought I cut it short. Dang! :)
