The code was applied as per the purposes it was coded in for.
It only applied to that listed stake.
As for your stand on "fixing the potential of a threat in future, with code that does not allow anything like this to be done"
100% FULLY AGREE.
The witness voting system needs to be fixed, the use of multiple accounts must be fixed and there are many options that can be looked into.
In reality, with the USA insisting on KYC for ALL US citizens and taking into consideration that many of the current stake holders are US citizens (again, reality) the solution could be something along the lines of:
Limit witness votes to KYC accounts only.
Limit witness votes to 5 votes.
Any additional accounts that are added to ones KYC are automatically proxied to the original KYC account.
& limit witness accounts to 1 per KYC. (forgot to add that in there)
and I am not stating that is being looked into, all I am doing is suggesting that options do exist and that they must be looked into if we re to ensure the existential security of the blockchain in future.
Likewise, I personally feel that the ninja mined stake has literally brought out the worst in people throughout it use and abuse, hence it is somewhat of a "blockchain omen".
Burn it! Get rid of it and let's move forwards.
Likewise the options to do what was allowed to be done to the stake at question, should then be nulled!
PS.
Note: everything I replied in this comment are my personal thoughts, not anything that has been discussed (that I know of) anywhere among the witness threads.
Have to make this very clear. Don't want to have anyone misinterpret what I have written.
Cheers.
