โ–  Travis Kalanick, and 'Monthly Kitchen'

Travis Kalanick, the founder of Uber, chose South Korea as the base-camp for the new business. What was it? What did he do for that? Why did he choose South Korea?

  • Monthly Kitchen

This is the shared kitchen model that began with his investment.

โ–  The beginning of shared kitchen business in Korea

Korea has the fastest average internet connection in the world. In addition, Korea also has the world's leading delivery service industry.

Small families and one-person families continue to increase with the rapid development in Korea. They began to eat a variety of foods by delivery rather than cook at home.

Recetnly many small businesses have been struggling with building rental prices soaring. They naturally needed a new solution to make lower their risk.

For all these reasons, the shared kitchens model has become an alternative solution in South Korea at last.

โ–  To visit the Monthly Kitchen to understand

One of the Monthly Kitchen's branches is in Gangnam, Seoul. There are many single-person households in the area, a shared kitchen solution linked to delivery service is good to do business, I guess.

I chose a restaurant 'So-delicious'. The Monthly Kitchen has many restaurants inside.

All orders must be made by yourself. These machines will help you with your order!

There were 8 menus that can be ordered that day. I'd just ordered 4 of them. Most menus were based on rice. For reference, we Koreans always think that rice is a basic healthy food. Maybe it's true.

This is Sicily-tomato-seafood soup. Probably it's from Sicilian food, Italy.

Let's go! Let's eat! With some nice side-dishes.

โ–  Interview with Eujin Jeong, the main chef

"It's been a month since I started working here in Monthly Kitchen town."

She is a chef with the hands of Midus. Her hands always turn any food ingredients into art.

She'd run a famous restaurant in Hongdae, one of Korea's hot place, for 10 years. Even many guests loved her food, she could no longer run her restaurant. It was because of the endess skyrocketing rent fee.

"The better my business, the higher the rent. Competition was getting fierce. The better is gets, the harder it gets... So I gave up. And then I'd just found a shared kitchen as alternative business model."

Somthing's wrong! Best foods and guests' happiness. But where did that added value eventurally go?

The best chef had exhaused, and the gourmets had lost their place. What is it good for? Why couldn't it continue to?

โ–  I found a hope there

"I'm still working all week. Not enough data with short period yet. I'll plan to set my commute time and holidays after filling data in a little more."

A-ha! I got it. All activities must become DataBase. It can make effective strategies soon. This is the only weapon that small businessmen lean on, isn't it?

Lots of large franchise restaurants push with large capital, Rentals that suck all the profits like the top of the grassland ecosystem...... The shared kitchen model would be the best way to fight against them.

I found a hope there. Because I've whatched the people with skills and enthusiasm were running without a break!!
