i piqued my own interest and found out that certain countries, namely Russia, banned this sort of content and Duo changed it for them. For me it isn't really being opposed to anything homosexual, but just the fact that it unnecessarily complicates thing in a gender language. Save that for later once a person has already mastered the basics.
