Every time I see projects or developments made by the government, it reminds me of Joni Mitchell's song "Big Yellow Taxi". Seriously, that song has been in my head recently after seeing the wider space left after cutting down hundreds of trees. Honestly, I will surely miss the pine trees that had been there before I was even born. Probably, they were even as old as my grandparents.
They say it is for progress. Well, it comes at the expense of the trees. Those trees are our natural defense against certain disasters. Who is going to protect us now? Recently, the Baywalk was flooded after a two-hour thunderstorm. That was just two hours! The Baywalk is in the area where hundreds of trees were displaced. There are even plans to remove more trees in the future.
It's quite a peaceful Monday. I don't hear any noise from traffic. I'm not aware if it's a holiday, but there's a school just two blocks away from home. Meanwhile, I feel better than I did during the past few days. I still have a cough and minimal headaches.
The Capitol Complex doesn't look pretty in some areas because of fewer trees. Some of the remaining trees are still to be removed. Well, more than 200 trees are already gone in the name of progress (as they say).
