It is heartbreaking to see the news about what is happening in schools today—especially tragedies or crimes like the recent one in a city here in the Philippines. Two teenagers, around 14 and 15 years old, were involved in a school shooting that killed at least three fellow students and left more than ten others injured. Before this shooting incident, there were also separate stabbing incidents that occurred in two other schools.
It makes one wonder what is happening to children these days. Many people are blaming the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act, which some believe inadvertently encourages child delinquency. Screenshots circulating on social media show that the two assailants allegedly planned the shooting, believing they could get away with the crime because they are minors, specifically citing the juvenile justice law.
Of course, we cannot fully blame the law. There are many other factors why these children are turning into criminals. What are their parents doing in the first place? What kind of values or discipline were taught to these kids?
Another major contributor could be modern technology, including social media. Materials promoting violence are easily accessible online and difficult to eradicate. This is why parents must do their part in educating their children and strictly monitoring their online consumption.
The weather is erratic today. It can be gloomy, and slight rains fell, then sun shines brightly. Again, it's gloomy. There's actually a typhoon inside the Philippine territory but thank God, it will not landfall. Rain is expected in our place though.
We're walking down to the lower part of the mountains to go to the farm. It was quite a long walk but it's fine because of the cooler weather.
