“Sire,” said the seeker, “tell me about God. What of him? Is it true that one becomes God if he follows you?”

The majestic head nodded, and those deep wise eyes gazed out across the broad water toward the far, wooded shores and round hills. “It is every man’s destiny to become the spirit of God,” his deep voice rolled. “They are only the attributes of God, for once you transcend time and space, beyond all creation, you meet with perfection. You find in the end that perfection is no-thing and no-thing is perfection. This is God. Therefore, seek nothing but God, and then you are seeking no-thing. Do I speak riddles?

“There is no philosophy greater than this which I tell the young sire. For in being one with the Spirit of God, thy Soul returns to God. Then I tell the seeker, the true kingdom of God is so far above all mankind that the very ken of thought cannot even imagine what it might be.

What more does a man need in life?

Thy virtues consist of steadfastness, love, and praise. Ah, there, dear one, you find the truths within the truth. The true teacher has transcended the state in which he is concerned for his own salvation. Then he is committed to the eternal welfare of all living beings, and will not rest until he has them all to the truth home again.

On attaining enlightenment, the teacher is commanded by God not to enter into the highest kingdom, but to remain in the world like mere mortal and devote his spiritual skills to the aid of all Souls. “He now bears upon himself the duty of gathering up Souls for their return to their true home. Joy, even-mindedness, bliss, and happiness are his rewards. He dwells with God while his feet walk the earth. Like the lotus flower, though it grows in the muddy water, it is not polluted by the mud; so he, though born in this world, is not polluted by worldly things or desires.

“There is the answer. The law of God compels man to see Him, and you must know that even though you may never seek God, He will seek you and compel you to turn to Him. “So I tell you this: Do as I say and you shall become one with God! Do you see, young sire.

The Tibetan stood quietly smiling down into the seeker’s face. The wind skipped briskly across the water, and rattled the cattails and the willow branches as the they both exchanged smiles…
