David Lighty had a team-high 17 points to lead Carmen’s Crew to its first-ever TBT title in a 66-60 victory over the Golden Eagles in a thrilling championship game that featured 12 ties and 14 lead changes. William Buford scored 14 points, including the game-winning free throws, to win it for the Ohio State University alumni squad. Jeff Gibbs scored all 11 of his points in the second half for Carmen’s Crew, which forced two turnovers in the Elam Ending and scored the game’s final eight points. Elgin Cook had 17 points in the losing effort for the Golden Eagles.
TBT features 64 teams of top professional, college alumni, and international basketball players competing in a single-elimination 5-on-5 tournament for a winner-take-all $2 Million prize. All games will air on ESPN networks beginning Friday, July 19th, culminating with the championship game on Tuesday, August 6th live at 9:00 pm ET on ESPN. Regional competitions will be hosted in Greensboro, Memphis, Lexington, and Columbus on July 19th-21st. Richmond, Salt Lake City, Wichita, and Syracuse will also host regional competitions on July 25th-July 28th.
The highly-competitive tournament has attracted some of the best basketball players in the world. In 2018, Overseas Elite won for the fourth year in a row. Teams compete for spots in the tournament by soliciting votes from fans and supporters via social media. Applicants must be 18 or older and willing to forego their amateur status.
