KISS, often stylized as KISS, emerged as an iconic American rock ensemble hailing from the vibrant city of New York in 1973. The founding quartet consisted of Paul Stanley (vocals, rhythm guitar), Gene Simmons (vocals, bass guitar), Ace Frehley (lead guitar, vocals), and Peter Criss (drums, vocals). Distinguished by their signature face paint and extravagant stage attire, the band skyrocketed to fame during the mid-1970s through electrifying live performances characterized by shock rock elements. These theatrical shows included fire-breathing, blood-spitting, guitars that emitted smoke, rocket-propelled stunts, levitating drum kits, and dazzling pyrotechnics.
Throughout the years, KISS underwent multiple lineup alterations, yet Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons remained the sole constants. Presently, the lineup comprises the enduring duo, along with Tommy Thayer (guitar) and Eric Singer (drums).
Adding to their mystique, the band members adopted the alter egos of comic book-inspired personas: Paul Stanley as the Starchild, Gene Simmons as the Demon, Ace Frehley as the Spaceman (or Space Ace), and Peter Criss as the Catman. Due to creative divergences, Peter Criss parted ways with the band in 1980, subsequently succeeded by Eric Carr, known as the Fox. Ace Frehley departed in 1982 and was succeeded by Vinnie Vincent, taking on the persona of the Ankh Warrior.
