The peony blooms are beginning to open and soon the plant will be covered in blossoms. It's a shame that they only last a couple weeks but they are quite spectacular at peak. Unfortunately with peonies the blooms are so heavy that once it rains they bend to the ground and need propping up afterwards. They have little to no fragrance and don't seem to ever attract bees.
Just last week this is what the plants looked like. Nature is amazing when dealing with a short growing season. I will post pictures of the double peonies once they open. The double peonies are always the last to cast off winter's pall and begin to grow and thus flower a bit later. However this allows me to have blossoms for longer in the season once one is done and the other flowers.
