This lovely creature or rather one of it's cousins paid me a visit last summer. I found this picture on a stock picture site as I was unable to photograph the one I saw. It was moving too fast for me to get my camera out. It was the first time I had ever seen one of these and I was mesmerized by it.
At first I did not know what it was. It was smaller than a hummingbird but could fly backward. And then I noticed it did not have a beak but a proboscis. I watched as it darted in and out of the flowers that were beside me. Nectar sipped it flew off. I felt honored by its visit and hope it makes a return visit this year.
