Are you a chess fan? Like to relax in a camping like setting? Perhaps you would like to visit Elmhirst Resort. For a reasonable rate you have access to a number of amenities. From a chessboard you play by moving the pieces on a lifesize board to horseback riding, fishing, canoeing, swimming, being in a pontoon plane, on a motorized paddleboat, hiking, and more.
The cabins are rustic with full amenities of kitchen, bedrooms, showers, tv, radio, and wifi service. You will be situated facing the beautiful lake and islands surrounding them. It is quiet and serene. The main hall can be rented to host parties and weddings. They have dining facilities and a pub and if you so choose you can order groceries to be delivered.
A lot of the food provided in the dining facility is grown on premises with a huge garden area, chicken pens, and cattle.
They are recycle friendly at every cabin. The kitchen hosts a full set of cooking implements, fridge, stove, dishwasher, and dining set. There are laundromat facilities on site.
Ok the above all seems like an ad for the place but I was there last fall and it truly was a place to relieve stress. I am not an employee or an ad marketer just a satisfied customer. I spent my time while not hiking feeding the fish off the end of the dock talking to one of their resident cats named Sparkles. I visited the firepit where people could congregate at night and light a fire (wood provided).
The night time stars seemed so much more intense without the streetlights and we happily could see the milky way. The lake was calm and the fish friendly (maybe because I was throwing them cheerios off the end of the dock each day :)). But fudge the fish controls the weather so how could I not feed him?
I understand they have cabins that allow pets although I did not take my dog with me. For me the five days I spent there were wonderful and relaxing. If you are looking for a place in Ontario to have a vacation I recommend Elmhirst Resort. I left feeling rested and happy.
