Hello everyone
How are you today ? I hope and pray that all members of Architecture+Design Community are always in good health and also happy in living this life. This time, I want to participate again in this community to share stories about my experiences and impressions of a building, a place that has a memorable design and architecture for me to discuss and share.
I believe, there is no such thing as coincidence in this world. Coincidence and luck are usually born from the process of effort and hard work. However, we often encounter or encounter moments that we never expected in our lives. Like the experience that I will this time.
Dru Kaffe
About two days ago, I bought a food voucher from a café. I bought the voucher without seeing the cafe, I just made sure the location wasn't too far from home, the food and drinks were halal and most importantly the prices were cheap. In the end I chose to buy a dining discount voucher from Dru Kaffe, and my wife and I went there to enjoy our lunch.
I didn't expect anything for that cafe, I didn't plan to make content because I thought, the cafe that I'm going to visit is not very interesting to discuss. We left at noon to the cafe. Dru Kaffee is located at Sriwijaya Street no. 76, Medan Baru District – Medan City. The location of the road from this cafe is a small road, so parking access is somewhat limited.
When I saw the front of this café, I became interested in discussing and writing about its design and architecture. Dru Kaffee uses the concept of a closed building with an area and a building area that is not too large. When I saw the design of the front of this café, I felt like the style of a western restaurant.
The front building uses a wall with wooden accents painted brown, like the wooden barracks that I often see in camp documentaries. This wooden arrangement is combined with five windows with dark glass. I also like the light bulb accessory that hangs at the front of this café, very much in line with the concept they want to use.
The door to enter this café is in the corner area. The door is not at the front but sideways so that there is a gap in a small room before we enter this café. The walls around the corners of this building use very beautiful marble motif ceramics.
Dru Kaffe is very different from some of the cafes I've come and visited. If some cafes use lots of open outdoor rooms with transparent windows so that visitors can see inside the café before deciding whether to enter or not. Dru Kaffe is very mysterious, because we only know the design and architecture of this building by opening the door and now we are going inside.
After I entered this building, I came to know that Dru Kaffe has two spaces, namely the front and the back. I discussed the front first. From the layout and design style chosen by this café, I see Dru Kaffe using a modern residential design concept with a minimalist style.
The floor of the front area uses a wood pattern vinyl floor, dark brown in color. I've always loved places that use wood motifs for the floors, I feel like I'm in my own home. We can also see the comfortable impression from the seating arrangement. We can see from the arrangement of the places used in this café, it is very comfortable for the visitors who come. The distance between the tables is set with a proportional distance.
In this front area, there are two types of furniture used. First, wooden tables and chairs with a style like a minimalist dining table. Seating with this style is perfect for visitors who have the goal of enjoying their lunch or dinner. Moreover, the table used is quite large with a capacity of 6-8 people. Apparently, Dru Kaffe designed this area as a place for visitors who come with a large group.
Second, we will look at furniture made from iron and wood. I often see this style of furniture in the two local coffee shops where I live. the seat uses a bench made of iron and wood. I think it's perfect for people who want to sit and hang out in this place. In the front area is a smoking area, visitors are free to smoke here.
Next, I invite you to see the rear area of Dru Kaffe. In this area, it is an indoor area with air conditioning. The number of seats is also far more than the front area. Just like the front, when I saw this place I felt very comfortable. First, I like the vibes of this café, it looks like home.
In this rear indoor area, Dru Kaffe uses several different seats. On the wall, Dru Kaffe made seats extending to the left and right of the wall. This seat uses the back of the sofa and also the base of the sofa seat which makes us comfortable to sit here. This seat, combined with wooden tables and chairs so that each seat can be for four people.
For the floor, this room uses vinyl wood motifs with a lighter color than the front. The wood vinyl used also has a color that harmonizes with the wooden tables and chairs in this room.
The choice of interior and decoration also really supports the comfort of this place. There is no excessive ornament, everything is simple and neatly arranged and according to the portion. One of them, the decoration of the hanging lamp bolted to the side of the wall, looks very beautiful and aesthetic.
One thing I realized while in this room. On the left wall (the direction from the entrance), we can see five transparent glass walls with a very large size. I had time to think, why is there a glass wall in the room, it turns out on the sea side there is an empty area about 1 meter like a small alley without a roof that allows sunlight to enter this room.
In addition, there are other uniqueness and peculiarities. I don't know why Dru Kaffee printed jungle wallpaper to cover the wall. I feel weird and don't quite fit with the concept used from this place, it looks weird and the decoration looks forced. I don't think this is an interesting design concept to use in a cafe.
Spot Photo
Looking at the choice of furniture, concept and also the style of this café. We can conclude that Dru Kaffe is a family café or friends café. This place is perfect for hanging out with friends and family, reunions or family dinners. I feel that this concept is what Dru Kaffe wants to strengthen and emphasize.
This is increasingly visible from the photo spots provided from this café. Dru Kaffee has a special spot to get a good and beautiful photo background. Spot the photo using a wall with artificial grass and artificial flowers. Not only that, to give the impression of a "café", a number of coffee tools are also displayed in the corner which makes this photo area look even cooler and more aesthetic.
Spot this photo, which made me understand the concept of this place. Try, at what moment will people use this photo spot, for sure when they want to take pictures with friends. That's all my story about Dru Kaffe, from the start I just wanted to exchange lunch vouchers, so I ended up discussing the design and architecture of this café. See you in my writing another time.
