Walking
Little by little, the streets of downtown begin to fill with more vendors and, at the same time, with many people looking for good deals during this Christmas season. Little by little, the sidewalks—which are usually already packed—are now overflowing, revealing an undeniable reality: Caracas is a city with impressive dynamism and commercial activity, where nothing ever stops and where life finds a way despite the difficulties.

Poco a poco las calles del centro de la ciudad comienzan a llenarse de más vendedores y, al mismo tiempo, de muchas personas que buscan en esta época de Navidad la oportunidad de conseguir buenos precios. Poco a poco, las aceras que normalmente ya están repletas ahora se desbordan, dejando en evidencia una realidad innegable, y es que Caracas es una ciudad con un dinamismo y una actividad comercial impresionante, en donde nada se detiene y en donde la vida se abre camino a pesar de las dificultades.
Amid the crowded sidewalks, we find iconic buildings, a truly fascinating urban landscape, and the contrasts characteristic of this capital city. But what’s important to highlight in this photo series is that I find myself walking alongside the people around me, showing them the reality of the first week of November—a month when the cold air begins to set in at the end of the afternoon, the rains haven’t quite gone away, and the fog threatens to roll in at any moment. This is how the year comes to a close in this city; this is how I remember it, and how I love to experience it.
Sobre las aceras repletas encontramos edificios icónicos, un paisaje urbano realmente interesante y contrastes propios de esta capital. Pero lo importante a resaltar en esta serie fotográfica es que me encuentro caminando junto a la sociedad que me rodea, mostrándoles la realidad de la primera semana de noviembre, un mes en donde el aire frío comienza a sentirse al final de la tarde, las lluvias no terminan de marcharse y la neblina amenaza con aparecer en cualquier momento. Es así como el año termina sobre esta ciudad, es así como la recuerdo y como me encanta disfrutarla.
This city is synonymous with constant movement, with a tireless struggle to achieve collective and individual goals, and, in short, it is a home on a grand scale. Like any city, it has many positives and some negatives, but this is part of our normal existence as a species, since those idyllic, utopian worlds are nothing more than dreams that never come true. The best part is that when we manage to keep our feet on the ground, we understand what we have and adapt to an environment that we, as individuals, cannot change, but through individual actions, we can achieve a collective bond that leads us to build a better society every day—and, consequently, a more welcoming city. For now, December is beginning; there’s already a certain buzz in the streets. I’m ready to go out and enjoy this season to the fullest, since, from my perspective, it’s the best time of the year—and it’s precisely during this time that the best photographs and the most interesting memories are captured.
Esta ciudad es sinónimo de movimiento constante, de lucha incansable por lograr objetivos colectivos e individuales y, en pocas palabras, es un hogar de grandes proporciones. Como toda ciudad, tiene muchos puntos positivos y algunos negativos, pero esto es parte de nuestra normalidad como especie, ya que esos mundos hídricos y utópicos no son más que sueños que jamás se cumplen y lo mejor es que cuando logramos poner los pies sobre la tierra, entendemos lo que tenemos y nos adaptamos a un entorno al cual de forma individual no podemos hacer cambiar, pero con acciones individuales podremos lograr un hermanamiento colectivo que nos lleve a construir cada día una mejor sociedad y, por ende, una ciudad más amigable. Por los momentos comienza diciembre; en las calles ya se denota cierto movimiento. Yo estoy preparado para salir y disfrutar de esta temporada al máximo, ya que, desde mi perspectiva, es la mejor época del año y es justamente esta en donde se cosechan las mejores fotografías y los recuerdos más interesantes.
