I'm standing on the Sedona fault line and looking at sandstone that dates back 260 million years which is almost the oldest exposed stone in the Sedona area. There are numerous faults that dissect this landscape caused by the uplift of the Rocky Mountains around 50 million years ago. The amazing scenery that represents Sedona today is the result of about 13 million years of erosion which comparatively is twice the time it's taken to cut the Grand Canyon.
