In 1964, smart people went the their banks with paper bills and stacked up their shiny mint condition half-dollars, quarters and dimes by the roll, once word came out that the silver was going to be plundered out of the coins. Sure enough, 1965 all new dimes, quarters and half-dollars became dross.
