In June 2017, Intel introduced the desktop PC processor duo Core i5-7640X and Core i7-7740X from the "Kaby Lake X" series. Both processors were a cheaper alternative to the "Skylake X" series (Core i7-7800X, Core i7-7820X, and Core i9-7900X) announced at the same time.
Quad-core processor Kaby Lake X is expected to lure consumers to want to use the platform High-End Desktop (HEDT) Intel. Unfortunately, gait Core i5-7640X and Core i7-7740X only a maize.
This week, through a document, Intel says Core i5-7640X and Core i7-7740X soon enter the End of Life (EoL). In other words, both received early retirement, in less than a year after debuting on the market.
Intel will start removing the Core i5-7640X and Core i7-7740X from its product line on the market from 7 May, for retail versions in both box and OEM (tray).

Full of responsibility

As summarized KompasTekno from ExtremeTech, Wednesday (2/5/2018), since the beginning of the Core i5-7640X and Core i7-7740X has a position of all-responsibility in the market.

Both of these processors can only be used with X299 chipset-based motherboards that are actually intended as a series pair of Skylake X processors.

Core i5-7640X and Core i7-7740X have integrated graphics processor (GPU) that is turned off because not supported by the motherboard chipset.

Then, Kaby Lake X also has only two memory channels so it can only use half of the DIMM memory slot contained on the X299 motherboard.

When Intel later released the Core i7-8700K processor which is much more attractive in terms of price and performance, Core i5-7640X and Core i7-7740X even more lost charm.

Not to mention the heavy rival Intel, AMD released series of Ryzen processors that offer more number of cores at a more affordable price. Short gait Core i5-7640X and Core i7-7740X was finally terminated by Intel.
