I live in Utah which is blest with numerous deep and extremely beautiful canyons.

I've come to see erosion as a force for good.

Of course people are prone to extract resources or build things without any thought about long term consequencies.

The erosion created by such activities tends to be harmful.

However, I would say that erosion is not a problem. The problem is with the stupidity of some people.

It turns out that is extremely difficult to stop erosion. For example, attempts to control the changing paths of rivers tend to fail because of the way that rivers move materials around.

BTW, many people live in distributaries. A distributary is the place where the eroded materials end up. In these areas, erosion is something that people must learn to deal with. In these cases, the effects of erosion are not an evil to overcome, but something people must learn to live with.
