Your are correct that people need better financial education.

a house is not an asset if it takes money from your pocket like taxes

We all have to live somewhere. So a house is an asset in that it saves the rent that would go to a landlord.

Unfortunately, too many people end up buying houses they cannot afford and their house becomes a debt trap and a huge liability.
