Rules to learn the gender in the Spanish language:
1.- Nouns ending in -or are masculine: example:
Televisor (Television)
Comedor (Dinning room)
Computador (Computer)
Supervisor (Supervisor)
2.- There are nouns that are neutral, they accept both articles (la) and (el) to denote the gender. Example:
M= masculine F= feminine
Artist:
El artista (M) - La artista (F) (the artist)
Witness:
El testigo (M) – La testigo (F) - the witness
Journalist:
El periodista (M) – La periodista (F) - the journalist
3.- Nouns ending in -J are masculine
Example: El reloj - (the clock)
4.- There are nouns that have only one gender and this includes both sexes. So It does not matter if it is male or female, we say the same word for both.
For example:
Aquatic animals:
Delfín (the dolphin) we say: ‘el delfín’ (the dolphin)
Tiburón (Shark) we say ‘el tiburón’ (the shark)
Flying animals:
Águila (Eagle) we say ‘el águila’ (the eagle)
