Inconspicuous and small are the "Ghost Crabs", Ocypodidae. The entrances of the burrows of these crabs, which are located in the sand, usually catch the eye much faster. Inconspicuous because the shell is an almost perfect imitation of the sand on the beach. Besides, the crabs do not like to show themselves and prefer to come out of their temporary dwellings towards evening. Therefore, in general, an entrance is always a good clue to find one of these animals. Otherwise the search is a bit more tedious.
Unscheinbar und klein sind die "Ghost Crabs", Ocypodidae. Die Eingänge der Höhlen dieser Krabben, welche sich im Sand befinden, fallen meistens deutlich schneller ins Auge. Unscheinbar, weil die Schale eine fast perfekte Imitation des Sandes auf dem Strand ist. Nebenbei zeigen sich die Krabben nicht gerne und kommen bevorzugt gegen Abend aus ihren temporären Behausungen. Daher ist generell ein Eingang immer ein guter Anhaltspunkt eines dieser Tiere zu finden. Ansonsten ist die Suche ein wenig mühseliger.

Und da haben wir eine, die meine Aufmerksamkeit erregt hat. Manchmal kann beobachtet werden, wie Sand aus der Höhle geschoben oder wie in diesem Fall von hier aus Ausschau gehalten wird. Rein theoretisch könnte ich auch mein Glück versuchen, falls keine Krabbe zu erblicken ist, ein wenig zu graben, dort wo der Eingang zu sehen ist. Das habe ich einmal gemacht und ist eine eher schlechte Methode eine Krabbe zu entdecken. Die rennen nach dem Zusammentreffen direkt Richtung Wasser.

Farblich und vom Muster her sieht die Schale genauso aus wie der Sand. Inklusive der dunkleren Flecken, welche ich als Verunreinigungen des Sandes bezeichnen würde. Auch zu erkennen, die Augen ermöglichen einen 360° Blick.

Sonderlich groß ist so eine Krabbe nicht und würde bequem auf die Handfläche eines Erwachsenen Menschen passen. Unter Wasser kann sie nicht Atmen und sie muss ihren Körper feucht halten, mithilfe des feuchten Sandes in der Höhle oder durch überspülen einer Welle. Dank des Objektivs und ganz viel Schneiden werden die Details sichtbar, die mit dem Auge, aufgrund der Distanz, nur schlecht zu sehen sind. Wie zum Beispiel die Mundwerkzeuge. Ocypodidae ist übrigens nur der Oberbegriff. Genauer spezifizieren fiel mir mal wieder schwer.
