Hi, I suspect that most of us carefully select the photos we take, whether with analogue or digital cameras. In my case, however, it was a little different. In my archive, I have all – and I mean all – of the rolls of film that I have exposed and developed, as well as all of the digital files from photos taken with digital cameras. Clearly unsuccessful shots, such as blurred or out-of-focus images or those taken by accidentally pressing the shutter button, are deleted, but the rest remain on my hard drives. I also have backup drives with copies of the photos in case of failure. I’ve scanned all the negatives and slides, and I have digital versions of them too. There’s sometimes a problem with the latter: I’ve been taking photographs for 50 years and some of the film in my home archives, dating back 70 years, has deteriorated over time. In short, gelatine is a good breeding ground for microorganisms. But perhaps I’ll talk about analogue negatives another time.

W swoim archiwum mam wszystkie powtórzę- wszystkie klisze jakie naświetliłem i wywołałem i wszystkie pliki zdjęć zrobionych aparatami cyfrowymi.

These photos were taken in May 2008 and show my cat, who was born on 4 March 2008 and died on 24 October 2022. They were taken with a cheap 'point-and-shoot' camera, so the quality is poor – very poor, in fact. The first photo is 1632×1224 pixels in size and weighs in at just 30 KB. The enhanced photo below is 2048×156 pixels (the size I set in the programme) and is 1.14 MB in size. I think the difference in quality is quite clear.

The results aren’t always satisfactory, but as the editing process is non-destructive, you can make plenty of attemp

I put these photos together quickly, but I’ll spend a bit more time on them and edit them further to improve their quality even more.

Te zdjęcia przygotowałem szybko ale poświęcę im jeszcze trochę czasu, poddam dalszej obróbce żeby jeszcze bardziej poprawić ich jakość.

In summary, it's worth keeping even those photos that seem to have turned out badly. Sooner or later, advances in software, including AI, will enable us to restore these photographs. I get immense pleasure from seeing old, damaged photos restored to decent quality, which allows me to enjoy the memories they contain.
