I attended a Fusion wedding last Saturday, held in a grand ballroom of a 5star hotel. Not that I knew the bridal couple. Instead, the invitation was extended by the Father of The Bride. Hey.. Isn’t that the title of a movie acted by Steve Martin & Dianne Keaton ? I started to relate the plot of the story in comparison to the Father of the Bride, himself. Let’s call him Rocky !!
In the movie, Martin portrays George Banks, a businessman and owner of an athletic shoe company who, when he finds out his daughter is getting married, does not want to give her away. He eventually learns to live with his new son-in-law and realizes that as long as his daughter is happy, he is happy.
Reading thru the plot of the movie, I see the similarities to Rocky. He’s speech was so emotional as his daughter, Carmen was indeed marrying an American & they would be living in the States after the wedding. Being the eldest in an Asian family, it’s always a spoken rule that the eldest must stay together if not nearby to the parents. Kind of to take care of the old folks. Tears were running down his eyes while giving the speech. We all felt for him. Being the head strong entrepreneur, Rocky showed all of us that he is just a Man, in this case a Father.
Being parents, will we be the same when we bid our children goodbye so that they can live their lives. Or will we hold on to them & keep them close just as the first day they were born. Most of us will say that we'll let them go. But, truthfully, we may just wish that they stay the way they are, forever in our arms
