Just opposite the Amiens train station stands a rather peculiar reinforced concrete tower. Every time we passed by, we wondered about its origin.

After some research, we discovered that this tower was designed by the architect Auguste Perret and built between 1949 and 1952. At 110 meters tall, it was, upon completion, one of the tallest concrete buildings in Europe and, I believe, the tallest in France.

Another advantage of this tower is that it served as a landmark for us, being very close to our hotel.

Juste en face de la gare d'Amiens, se dresse une tour en béton armé au design assez singulier. Chaque fois que nous passions devant, nous nous interrogions sur son origine.

Après quelques recherches, nous avons découvert que cette tour a été conçue par l'architecte Auguste Perret et construite entre 1949 et 1952. Avec ses 110 mètres de hauteur, elle était, à son achèvement, l'un des plus hauts bâtiments en béton d'Europe et, je crois, le plus haut de France.

Un autre avantage de cette tour est qu'elle nous servait de point de repère, étant située très proche de notre hôtel.
