Tres atentas lechuzas

Lechucitaas vizcacheras - Athene cunicularia - Burrowing Owl

Very abundant in the rural area of Mar del Plata, Argentina. We see it in all our trips to the countryside. It is a nice little owl, the only one that lives in burrows that often build themselves on earth. Unlike most owls and owls are very active during the day and easy to observe on a mound of earth, a fence or on a lamp post, standing on one foot, attentive to everything that happens around , and if they get upset or get excited for some reason they move up and down as if bowing. They fly with irregular spasmodic flaps and will often make long glides, interspersed with fast flutters.

• Muy abundante en la zona rural de Mar del plata, Argentina. La vemos en todas nuestras salidas al campo. Es una simpática y pequeña lechuza, la única que vive en madrigueras que a menudo construyen ellas mismas en la tierra. Al contrario de la mayoría de las lechuzas y búhos son muy activas durante el día y fáciles de observar sobre algún montículo de tierra, una cerca o sobre un poste de luz, parada en un solo pie, atenta a todo lo que ocurre a su alrededor, y si se alteran o se excitan por alguna causa se mueven de arriba hacia abajo como haciendo reverencias. Vuelan con aleteos espasmódicos irregulares y con frecuencia hará deslizamientos largos, intercalados con aleteos rápidos.
