I really need to work on my “initial reaction” skills. I noticed my two year old son playing with a small metal piece and I couldn’t figure out what it was...
Then it hit me. It was part of an electrical plug, but what did it go to?
I knew the wife had vacuumed earlier, so I figured it was that, and sure enough, it was.
I was NOT a happy camper. Why let a two year old mess around with something like that? I was pretty upset, thinking I would have to shell out something like $180 for a new one for something so stupid.
BUT!, after relaying this story to my moms husband, he told me I could get a new plug for it at the hardware store.
Schwing!
I stopped by today, found the one I needed and paid the $3.49 for it. Sure beats $180!
Since I have been accumulating hand tools for years now, I had everything I needed to get the job done quick.
I cut off the old broken plug and using my wire strippers, stripped back the cord which revealed a white wire and a black wire, along with some white fabric insulation.
A quick call to my moms husband and I now knew that the black wire was the “hot” wire and needed to be connected to the gold screw connector in the new plug. The white wire went to the silver screw, and that was that.
10 minutes later and my wife was cruising around the house playing Susie home maker. She hadn’t vacuumed in 4 days, so she was getting a little vacuum withdrawal, lol.
Easy peasy lemon squeezy, and I saved myself $176 bucks.
Love it when a good DIY comes together!
Now I just need to learn to relax when something is broken and see what options there are to fix it, before I have a freak out episode, lol.
