The Matrix Resurrections
I won't super spoil anything if you haven't seen it yet. Just throwing my opinion into the ring.
To say that I am highly disappointed is an understatement. After damn near 20 years, this is the best you've got?
I've seen this a couple times, and it's not totally a bomb, it does come very close though. There are a few things that help to somewhat redeem the shoddy writing.
Let's talk characters shall we?
Neo and Trinity, they got these roles down pat still. Just needed a decent story to pull it off.
Jonathan Groff as the New Agent Smith does a decent job of putting his own stamp on the Smith character.
Jessica Henwick is pretty good as Bugs too. I've seen her in other shows before, she can kick a lil ass.
That's about it for the decent, lol. As for the rest...
Neil Patrick Harris as The Analyst, meh okay then.
Priyanka Chopra Jonas as Sati, okay for the most part.
Lambert Wilson as The Merovingian. WTF? You totally wasted his character. You can't understand half of the 5 lines he's saying. Lame.
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Morpheus 2.0, hmm... every time he gets hit in a fight scene, he lets out a little cry. Disturbing and Lame.
Christina Ricci as Gwyn de Vere. You gave Wednesday Addams just two lines lmao. Okay then.
Don't get me started on Niobe. Jada Pinkett Smith is usually a decent actress. Niobe wasn't a weak character, she is now. All she does is bitch and moan about being old, and then says you don't hear me complaining about getting old. She's completely weak now... can I get a WTF? I am still SMFH about this one.
And where the hell is the Oracle? She couldn't see a purge coming? Really? Lame.
The rest of the characters were a let down, and there were some decent actors in there.. it's a shame really.
There must have been a mega flush and grab from twitter, to acquire writers from the looks of it. They straight up tell you in the movie that their parent company Warner Brothers is forcing a sequel to the trilogy, and if they don't do the project, their contract gets cancelled. Thank you WB.
The plot sucks plain and simple. You're a super smart AI that can't figure out how to fix the f'ing sky? And you're still messing with human batteries? There are so many ways to acquire power, you can't figure it out? If you must have humans, you can't figure out how to clone Neo and Trinity? You can halt their aging apparently. Disappointing.
This series of films went from outstanding, to free falling into a dumpster fire.
I give this: one and a half stars. It should have been called Regurgitations, as that is the brand now.
They tell you that isn't the brand in the movie... lies. If they make another Matrix Film, it would be a big surprise to be sure. I wouldn't pay to see this in a theater. I watched this on HBO Max.
