Passive as in "not aggressive". Some plants are rowdy, and that's life on a Deathworld.
Molecular printing is a snobbery thing. It's cheaper to print meats and veg that would otherwise take time to grow and nurture. Therefore, the farmed-in-nature stuff is more expensive.
Like, you can get the same kind of kobe beef from a food printer, but the one from a once-living cow costs astronomically more.
