Honestly, at least half of all modern education is doing stuff that was necessary during the Victorian Era or earlier, that has since been outmoded by the modern era.
As a child of the 70's, I remember being told I wouldn't be carrying around a calculator full time [as a rationale for learning the times tables]. They weren't wrong. I have a whole computer in my pocket that masquerades as a phone.
