"Either die a hero or live long enough to become a villain," seems to be the modus operandi. Alternately, there are some heroes who did reprehensible things and that has to be faced. There are people who use fame as a license to get away with nasty shit and that's on them. There are people who use fame as permission to take the mask off and get worse as time goes by.
I know I'll get accusations of child abuse because of my personal relationships with consenting adults. The desire to bring down those tall poppies is strong.
To paraphrase Lois McMaster Bujold: "Reputation is what people think they know about you. Honour is what you know true about yourself."
