My personal anti-faves are the people who hoard everything without foreknowledge and then brag about being prepared. Sure they have stocks of flour or barrels of fuel, but both of those go off, friendo.
Sometimes, I think the best Prepping is knowing how things were done Before X. That way the knowledge will be shared and people won't be thinking, "Aha, [NAME] has spent fortunes on prepping for the end of the world, let's raid them!"
Instead it's like, "You should not fertilise your crops with your own feces because pathogens will get into your food that way" or, "this is how to knit your own jumper" or, "here's what companion planting you should be doing to keep the bugs off your crops" and, "here's three ways you can make a cloak with minimal skills"
ISTG society will be rebuilt by all those people with Fringe Skills and a little knowledge about the Before Times.
