Wutu's transport was attacked. Deceptive, Dessie, now well grown, was laying near its owner purring. But the pirates learned quickly, that the cat had learned to guard its owner against hostiles, and be gentle toward friendlies. They'd live, but would definitely need quite a lot of medical care.

Of all the incontrovertible laws that governed the universe, there was one that Humans insisted be upheld. Once a cat is on your lap, you are not allowed to move.
Deceptive, Dessie for short, was a purring blanket of fluff that weighed down Wutu's feet. Rumbling like thunder. Any attempt to move resulted in kitty claws sinking meaningfully into Wutu's denim protection.
It was the worst possible time for Space Pirates to attack, but attack they did.
One of them burst into Wutu's workspace and grabbed the first thing ze saw. Which happened to be Dessie. Wutu cried out in terror for their pet and reached for a stunner to save the cat.
They never got as far as pointing it.
Dessie, usually a phlegmatic and agreeable animal, transformed into a whirlwind of teeth and claws. Wailing and yowling as the cat went.
A moment of blood and violence and the pirate fled.
By then, Wutu had their stunner ready and had found their feet. Dessie seemed content to clean hirself where ze had come to rest.
Wutu donned their livesuit, and did their best to creep out and surprise any pirates that were also aboard.
News like a cat got around, thankfully. The pirates were willing to surrender peacefully so long as the "wild Deathworlder animal" was kept far away from them.
