This makes learning a language so much easier.

Funny thing, I hear Finnish is one of the hardest languages to learn as it has so many different suffixes but yeah, the pronunciation is the easy part.

I got in to a YouTube limbo one day and ended up watching an English speaker learning Polish and that sounded really hard. Because of the amount of alphabet alone.

So what I've understood, Afrikaans has only 26 alphabet, from a to z like English alphabet does, but the language sure doesn't sound like that. It sounds like you have a bit more! So if I've understood correctly, when you combine certain two letters, that makes a whole new sound? And of course different letters, different combinations, right?

I wonder how a phonetic attempt would look like because we do not have any standard way of writing and speaking the words/letters!

Exactly what I was thinking too. If I would want to add the phonetic way to pronounce Afrikaans words written so that a Finn could speak it, I think with some words it would be really hard because there are no alphabet for that. Or it would be a mix of different consonants on top of each other with the understanding that you're supposed to pronounce the consonants at the same time. Or something like that. :D

I can see the difference in the Kaap Afrikaans and Afrikaans in the text but it's a bit harder for me to recognize the differences in the videos just by listening as I don't understand the words and in some sentences it's really hard to separate different words and know where previous one ends and the next one starts. Nevertheless dialects make the language so much more richer. And every new way to pronounce a word is also transforming the language in to something new. I think you already mentioned it in some of our discussions that languages evolving is a good thing but then again it's also sad when there are certain languages that vanish forever. Same goes with dialects.
