Sowing a black skirt using poly material for my presentation in school.
Hello Needleworkers
How are you feeling today???
It's another great moment and I'm glad to share to you all on how i made this black skirt using poly material
My presentation in school is to come up tomorrow and I've been contemplating on what outfit to use because it requires mainly a cooperate outfit and as usual part of our grading was based on our dressing. As a student teacher, we're trained to appear on cooperate outfit most times and in all our presentations so as a result of that the nature of our dressing in each presentation mattered a lot and we were graded for it so as to attract improvements.
After many thoughts,i remembered i owned a shirt that is supposed to be worn with a black skirt buy the black skirt was the issue here. I thought of buying a new black skirt but it turned out that i wasn't really on money at the moment and then on a second thought,on remembering that i know how to so a bit i decided to do what i can afford which was to buy a black material and a zip for my skirt..
After purchasing the material,i went into sowing as soon as I could.
I had intentions of sowing for two days since I've barely learnt sowing for up to a month but luck had it that i finished the skirt within 5 hours
So these are the items i used in making the skirt:
-Black poly material (1 yard)
-Ready made zip
-thread
-sewing machine
And these are the steps i used in making the skirt
Firstly i had the following measurements of my self,
-The waist
-Hips
-Under the hips
-lenght of the skirt
When i got this measurement
I divided them all into four an used the forth number for my measurements.
I folded my material into two parts
I placed my tape and marked on the material starting from the waist down, i also took the length measurement
After getting the accurate measurements
I cut the material out
After cutting it out, that was the front part of my skirt
And to get the back part,i placed the front side on the material and added 2 inches which is called the zip allowance
After adding the two inches i cut it out
At this point i had my back and my front side ready
That wasn't all,i took the back side and folded it into two equal parts and used my scissors in cutting it
After i had cut it into two equal parts i had to make use of my machine in joining it from the lower towards the upper side and allowing 5 inches for the zip
When i arrived at this point, I joined both parts together that is the front and the back side
After joining it, i moved to cutting my band.
I cut 5 inches of the material with the waist measurement as the length
After cutting it out i bent it into two and attached it to my skirt
After completing the band,
I went on to putting my zip
After putting it,i bent the zip so that it won't show and i also bent the down part of the skirt and my skirt was complete
So this is the finished work
And now my black skirt was ready to be worn,
I used it with a black and white shirt for my presentation and it was perfect
