As she gazed at the starry night—having slipped away from the group accompanying her, a group that seemed to be constantly growing—the young woman began to recall the day it all started: how she had gone from someone who wrote and worked ceaselessly at a computer to someone who learned to summon and wield elemental powers. She thought about how she sometimes missed her old appearance, even though she didn't dislike her current one, and above all, she thought of the brother with whom she had always wanted to play, yet whom she had constantly put off. All these thoughts flooded her mind, stirred by everything she had experienced with that wizard and the conversations within her newly formed circle of friends and fellow adventurers.

A headache began to set in, so she decided to take a short walk—nothing too far; she just wanted some fresh air and, perhaps, if she felt up to it, a bit of practice. Although she had learned a great deal in the village of Culebro, the truth was that during the journey, she had mostly focused on resting and controlling her energy. She often found herself utterly exhausted after battles, and she was beginning to realize she needed something to help improve her summoning abilities. Jolius and Ember tried to keep her spirits up whenever she felt discouraged, while Buns—who was very skilled at it—explained how to read the battlefield and improve her defenses; yet, despite the help, she sometimes felt overwhelmed. As she walked, she heard a faint fluttering sound behind her and spun around sharply, spotting a pair of small, glowing eyes watching her from within the bushes.

Her first instinct was to scream for help, but she feared that might only alert the creature, so she slowly backed away. However, the figure began to draw closer, gradually revealing skin in shades of purple and pink, until it finally appeared as a small dragon. She couldn't tear her eyes away from it, even as she felt her body temperature drop from sheer fear. Even so, she calmly tried to raise her hand to use magic when the dragon lifted one of its wings slightly, revealing a scroll tied to it. Seeing this, she hesitated, but cautiously approached to take it; to her surprise, the creature showed no intention of attacking—on the contrary, it seemed calm.

She unfurled the scroll and found a rather long message from someone she knew: "Adventurer Ineyashami, considering everything that happened after your training—what Buns said, followed by that mage named Nattosenpai—I realized you might need a little extra help to continue your journey. I also believe your power could still benefit from a summoning, so I took the liberty of sending you a friend I recently helped and have been training, just like you. I feel that, since both of you are the sort of beings easily judged in these lands, you’ll get along well and make a great team. Please look after him; he’s a handful, but strong. His name is Vaelok, though he’s a good guy. If you need anything, don't hesitate to reach out..."

"Vaelok," she whispered, recalling the conversation she’d had earlier with that figure. It was true—Culebro really had trained a dragon—but why send it to help her? Her eyes settled on the dragon again, and she asked softly, "And how am I supposed to understand what abilities you have?" They say life is full of surprises and that sometimes only the chosen few discover things hidden from others; at that moment, the dragon stepped closer, and a voice resonated in her mind: I was told you could understand me and that we would be allies. Startled and unsure of the voice's source, yet trusting in the impossible, she looked at the dragon and asked, "Was that you?"

The little dragon nodded as he heard that voice again: "My name is Vaelok, and I don't trust the creatures of this world very much; however, that elf saved me and told me that you, too, might understand me and wouldn't want to kill me like the others, so I agreed to come with you." Just then, Jolius appeared—he had been looking for her—and upon seeing the dragon, he readied himself to attack and call the others; however, the girl stopped him and explained the situation. Jolius connected this to what Buns had said and lowered his guard, and they decided to return to the small camp so everyone would be informed. Even so, on the way back, the girl kept wondering how the dragon could communicate with her and whether this was normal. She asked Jolius if it was common for dragons to speak with the creatures of that world; he said no and asked why she was asking.

Immediately, Vaelok and the girl exchanged doubtful glances as she said, "Then how is it that I...?" At that moment, she heard the dragon speak in her mind: "Don't tell him; I don't know how you can understand me either, but it might be an ability. Let's investigate first." Although the girl trusted Jolius completely, something told her it was best to keep this a secret for the moment until they understood better what to do. She wondered how to explain it without scaring the others—whose figures were coming into view and who seemed surprised to see who was accompanying her... though, curiously, Buns seemed to be smiling... To be continued.
