indmissbl- That odd user name screams for explanation! My name is Laurie Blomberg and my husband Bill and I are missionaries to the Seminole Indians on the Brighton Reservation in Okeechobee, Fl. SO... ind(ian) miss(ionary) B(ill) & L(aurie) was what I came up with. I didn’t realize my user name was going to be "out there" and was also unchangeable. Oh well!!

The Seminole Tribe of Florida has six reservations and we are so honored to work with these wonderful people! We moved from the Pocono Mountains, Pennsylvania to Brighton in 2003 and lived on the reservation in an RV for three years. So fun and DIFFERENT! Gators, huge snakes, armadillos, lizards, palmetto bugs (aka GIANT ROACHES!) and spiders that will chase you! I’m a Yankee! It was an adjustment but a cool adventure too!
In 2013 we realized we needed some additional income and Bill asked me what I thought about growing oyster mushrooms. I didn’t even know what an oyster mushroom was but it sounded like a great idea to me and so Kissimmee River Mushrooms LLC was born. It has been an awesome journey as we have been able to continue our ministry with the Seminoles as well as start a small family farm. Our older son and his wife saw real potential in the business and joined us a year and a half ago. Together we are taking the business to a whole different level and having a ball doing it!
This photo was from an article on our farm in the Delray Beach Magazine. Pictured are Luke our younger son, Bill, me, our older son Joel and his wife Leah.
Lake Okeechobee is the second best fresh water lake in the world and I fully plan to buy a boat and spend time on that lake soon! In PA we had a boat on Lake Wallenpaupack but donated it before moving to Florida. I really miss it!
Bill has so many awesome ideas and inventions and I hope he will write them down so I can share them. He is brilliant! (He will kill me when he sees this!) LOL
